Pre-tender conference for awarding concession for Montenegro's airports gathers investors from around the world

Podgorica, Montenegro (31 October 2019) -- More than 80 representatives of 33 companies from Europe, America and Asia attended in Podgorica earlier today the Pre-Tender conference for awarding concession for Montenegro's airports.

Deputy Prime Minister Milutin Simović opened the conference as the President of the Tender Commission, saying that he considers a very high interest in Montenegro's airports and the presence of reputable companies such as France-based Bouygues Construction and Airports de Paris, Turkish TAVs and Limak Group, Irish Daa International, Korean International Airport, a confirmation that an attractive and stable investment environment has been created in Montenegro and that the coutry is a globally attractive investment destination.

"The need for further accelerated economic development of Montenegro implies the development of overall infrastructure, and our top priority in this area is the development and full valorisation of our airports, as a key prerequisite for recognising Montenegro as a high-quality tourist destination on the European and global map," DPM Simović stated.

The Deputy Prime Minister told interested investors that the Government wants to get a partner who will develop the necessary infrastructure at both airports, create safe and high-quality jobs, actively attract new airlines, open new regional, European and further routes, and offer competitive financial proposals.

"As an EU candidate country that has progressed in the negotiation process, with 32 open chapters, we are fully aware of the importance of adhering to EU rules and standards under the Stabilisation and Association Agreement and are determined to carry out the whole process in line with the best European practices ensuring a fair and transparent tender procedure, with a high level of integrity and ethics. Montenegro is a high-quality, reliable and safe investment destination. In this process, we will ensure a fair market game, and let the best win,” Deputy Prime Minister Milutin Simović underlined.

During the conference, Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs Osman Nurkovic addressed the significant investments made by the Government of Montenegro in the development of the tourism industry, focusing on the development of winter tourist centres, emphasising that the expected increase in the number of tourists implies modern and developed transport infrastructure, especially in the part of air transport.

“Every year we see an increase in the number of passengers at the Montenegrin airports, which is certainly an additional stimulus for interested companies. I am pleased that today there is a large number of interested companies present, which are credible in the global air transport market, and accordingly I expect high-quality offers,” Minister Nurković concluded.

Consultant of the Government of Montenegro - the International Finance Corporation (IFC), which is a member of the World Bank Group, presented  to the potential bidders the subject, parametres and structure of the concession, the technical specifications of the airports, as well as the next steps in the tender procedure.
