The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development launched today the implementation of the Fruit, Vegetables, Milk and Dairy School Programme, which aims to improve children's eating habits and promote healthy lifestyles of the youngest generations.

For starters, there are 3,165 children, from first to fifth grade, enrolled in seven primary schools in the four municipalities - Berane, Bijelo Polje, Kolašin and Danilovgrad, with the ambition to increase the number of schools, municipalities and children in the coming period and in the coming years.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Milutin Simović said that for the first time this year's Agro Budget created this programme for schools, emphasising that its implementation is extremely important in order to encourage healthy eating habits in children, which, he said, is a guarantee of a healthy, high-quality and long life.

He emphasised that an integrated approach of all sectors is important for successful implementation of the programme, and that, apart from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministries of Health and Education were involved, adding that good communication was established with the Office of the World Health Organisation in Montenegro, which will agree joint promotional activities.

"The goal of the School Programme is not only to distribute healthy meals, but also to educate children, through numerous workshops and field activities. It's a way to create, not only healthy eating habits, but also other, above all, work habits," Simović said.
