General-Director Mulić: Situation caused by heavy rainfall significantly better than in previous days, system functions at full capacity

Podgorica, Montenegro (7 November 2019) -- At today's session, the Montenegrin Cabinet adopted the Information on the current situation caused by heavy rainfall and concluded that the system was functioning at full capacity, in a synchronised manner and in line with procedures, Director-General of the Directorate for Emergency Management Mirsad Mulić told the press conference following the Cabinet session.
In that regard, it was stated that the announcement by the Institute of Hydrometeorology and Seismology and the alert of the Emergency Management Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior to the relevant services and citizens contributed significantly to timely response.
Thanks to timely and adequate response of local protection and rescue services, as well as utility companies at the local level, the damage caused by the complex meteorological situation has been minimised.
It was also noted that all services responded adequately and professionally in the cities where the situation was most critical, namely in Nikšić, Danilovgrad, Herceg Novi, Šavnik, Kolašin and Mojkovac. Mr Mulic said that members of the Montenegrin Armed Forces have been on the ground in Kolašin today.
Director-General Mulić also pointed out that the water levels of Morača, Bojana and Zeta rivers had increased in the previous days.
According to him, at present the situation is significantly better than it was in the previous days and that the water is receding, Skadar Lake is calm, so at this moment the risk of flooding in the coastal area of Skadar Lake is minimised.
The members of the protection and rescue services and the Emergency Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior will continue to monitor the situation on the ground with full attention, and in accordance with the available material and human capacities, continue to work professionally in the coming days in order to cope with all the challenges arising from extreme weather conditions.
The damages are going to be determined, based on local assessments, Mr Mulić concluded.
