Montenegro, having achieved significant results, reaffirmed its strong commitment to negotiations with the European Union, it was assessed at a meeting of the Sub-committee Trade, Industry, Customs, Taxation and Cooperation with other Candidate Countries in Brussels.

Chief Negotiator Aleksandar Drljević emphasised that the Sub-committee meetings represent an excellent platform for reviewing the results achieved, as well as issues and challenges in which additional engagement is needed, with a view to more effectively addressing and improving the situation in the respective areas, and recalled that Montenegro has opened one of the most complex chapters 27 - Environment and Climate Change since the last Sub-committee meeting.
"The opening of the last chapter in the negotiation process will confirm that Montenegro remains strongly committed to meeting the obligations of the European agenda and that the implementation of reforms at the national level clearly demonstrates the ability to reach European standards," he said.

Deputy Head of the Montenegro Unit at the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Barbara Jesus-Gimeno welcomed the progress made in the previous period, assessing that Montenegro has established a regulatory and institutional framework in the areas covered by today's Sub-committee, but that further action is needed on reform and implementation of regulations, and that the European Union remains strongly committed to the enlargement process, the region and Montenegro.

At the twelfth meeting of the Sub-committee, the Delegation of Montenegro presented to the representatives of the European Commission the progress achieved in the negotiating chapters which fall under the competence of this Sub-committee - Chapter 1 - Free movement of goods, 16 - Taxes, 20 - Entrepreneurship and industrial policy, 29 - Customs Union and 30 - External relations.
