Press release: Prime Minister Zeljko Sturanovic meets Spanish Ambassador to Montenegro Jose Riera Sikier

Prime Minister Zeljko Sturanovic met In Podgorica today with newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Montenegro Jose Riera Sikier, accredited on a non-resident basis.

Prime Minister Sturanovic congratulated Ambassador Sikier on his new appointment, recognizing the significance of this act for further development of relations between the two countries. He informed his guest of the political and economic situation in the Republic and the achievement of macroeconomic stability. Referring to the first anniversary of the restoration of independence, the Prime Minister said that the resolution of the state status issue had enabled clear and efficient performance of planned activities and accelerated Montenegros progress towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Having thanked the Prime Minister for his compliments, Ambassador Sikier pointed out that Spain, as a Mediterranean country, supported Montenegros accession to the EU and was ready to provide every professional and other assistance on this path.

It was agreed that bilateral relations showed an upward trend, but that there was still plenty of room for the expansion of mutual relations, above all in the field of economy. Tourism and associated industries, such as road infrastructure, water supply, solid and liquid waste treatment and disposal, were identified as particularly interesting.

Ambassador Sikier announced that, in the near future, Spain would open its embassy in Podgorica. In this regard, the Prime Minister voiced a reciprocal readiness on the part of Montenegro.
