Minister Janović hosts European Champion
Minister of Sports and Youth Nikola Janović hosted earlier today judo national team member Jovana Peković, winner of a gold medal at the European Junior Championship, held in Izhevsk (Russia).
On that occasion Minister Janović emphasised that he was especially pleased that Montenegro’s judo players are coming back to the great scene and the result of Jovana is a confirmation of the great potential in this sport whose progress should be committed to all of those in charge of judo development in Montenegro and that taking care of talents must be a sole priority for them.
"I am glad that today I have the opportunity to host Jovana Peković, who is the first gold medal winner for Montenegro at the European Judo Championships. Judo is a very significant sport in Montenegro, as evidenced by its high position in the categorisation of sports, which is why I am particularly pleased that finally, among promising athletes and scholarship holders of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, we have judo players as well," Minister Janović pointed out.
Making this result, Jovana Peković become the first judo athlete to acquire promising athlete status and a one - year scholarship of the Ministry of Sports and Youth.
The European champion used this opportunity to thank Minister Janović for the reception and highlighted that the status of promising athlete and the scholarship of the Ministry of Sports and Youth certainly is an additional motive to continue to work hard and continue to represent her country in the most prestigious competitions in a best way, such as it was case in Izhevsk.
The meeting also attended President of Judo Federation of Montenegro Andrija Čađenović, Sports Director Srđan Mrvaljević and Selector Dragan Šćepanović who thanked the Ministry of Sports and Youth for their support and professional cooperation that contributed to the creation of preconditions for increasingly dynamic development of judo, which has concrete results now.
