Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković presented today in London, at the 13th Global Citizenship Conference, the Government's achievements and our economic and political priorities, saying that Montenegro has made major strides in its overall socio-economic development since the renewal of independence in 2006, that it has strengthened its position as economically most developed country in the Western Balkans and a fully secure country based primarily on a unique multi-confessional and multi-ethnic harmony, that we have no open issues with our neighbours and that our foreign policy is in line with EU foreign and security policy, and that Montenegro is certainly the next member of the European Union.

As part of the presentation of foreign investments, the Prime Minister said that we have seen remarkable growth since joining NATO.

"When it comes to the economy of Montenegro, it has seen high growth rates over the last three years: 4.9% in 2017, 5.1% in 2018 and 3% in the second quarter of 2019. Since our NATO membership, we have seen 64% growth in investment from Alliance member states. The total FDI inflow in these three years is over EUR one and a half billion. We also record 30,000 new jobs, or an 8% reduction in the unemployment rate. Currently, investments in the amount of more than EUR 3 billion are underway," said Prime Minister Duško Marković, speaking to hundreds of conference participants from around the world.

Speaking about our tourism, which breaks records both by the number of tourists and by the number of nights and by income, the Prime Minister presented the latest data.

"As an illustration, here's the latest information I got this morning: In the first nine months of this year, we had 360,000 tourists, or 1.35 million nights more than in the same period last year. That's an 11% increase. We will end this year with more than 2.5 million tourists who have visited our country - that is four tourists per capita," the Prime Minister pointed out.

PM Marković recalled our huge investments in the Northern Region, adding that we are investing more than EUR 800 million into the motorway and that a strategic partner for our airports is to be chosen.

All these fact are investor benefits, as well as development programme through which a maximum of 2,000 investors in the next three years can acquire Montenegrin citizenship by investing in one of the development projects.

"The application costs EUR 100,000 and implies a minimum investment of EUR 450,000 on the coast or in the capital Podgorica, and EUR 250,000 in the less developed but resource-rich Northern Region. The process involves reputable international agents (such as H&P) for mediation, as well as security and other background check of applicants. Four large and significant investment projects were approved, 3 of which were in the north of Montenegro. We expect more project applications in the next few months, given that interest is high. The entire process is led exclusively by the Government, which guarantees transparency, legality and security of investment under this model," Prime Minister Duško Marković concluded.

Prime Minister's speech was followed by a promotional film showing the political and economic characteristics of our country and key areas suitable for foreign investment.
