PM Marković meets with heads of inspection services: Government will support inspections strengthening to enhance fight against grey economy

The excellent result in the collection of state revenues needs to be strengthened in the coming period, and the Government will support the staffing and logistical equipment of the inspection services, which must deliver a new strong blow to the grey economy, Prime Minister Duško Marković said at a meeting with heads of the Tax Administration, Customs Administration and the Administration for Inspection Affairs Miomir Mugoša, Vladan Joković and Alija Košuta.

"The budget for 2020 is ambitiously planned for the further development of the country. It is necessary to pay for everything that belongs to the State because that money we invest in infrastructure, jobs, income increase... It is essential for your services to ensure compliance with the law and adequate budget filling," PM Marković noted.

The meeting stressed that the new impetus for action would be to reduce the grey economy in the fields of tourism, construction and the labour market.

The Head of the Tax Administration pointed out that they collected EUR 3.1 billion in revenue during this Government's mandate, which is EUR 170 million more than planned. In just 10 months of this year, nearly EUR 1 billion of revenue was collected, EUR 70 million more than the previous year.

A good trend of revenue collection is also recorded in the Customs Administration, where in the first 10 months of this year EUR 687 million were collected, or 41 million more than in 2018. More than 33,000 controls were carried out at the Administration for Inspection Affairs, nearly 12,000 misdemeanor warrants worth EUR 4.7 million were issued. Acting Director General of the Directorate for Inspection and Licensing at the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism Ivan Medojević presented the state and challenges in the field of urban planning inspection. The Prime Minister expressed his full support for efforts to strengthen inspections and deliver results in this challenging area. 

He also pointed to the need to deal with deviations within the system, generated over the years, and to prosecute all those to whom law and the public interest are not the basic principle in their work. 

The meeting also discussed improving the legislative and institutional framework that will provide more effective mechanisms for achieving better results.
