Finance Minister Radunović: EUR 21 million for Montenegro Airlines next year, national airline now has a chance to be sustainable

The Government of Montenegro has allocated EUR 21 million in the 2020 budget for the consolidation of Montenegro Airlines, Minister of Finance Darko Radunović said and added that the national airline is contributing to tourism and increasing budget revenues, that it now has a chance to be sustainable and that we must make an effort to consolidate it.

We are working to create the preconditions not to jeopardize the State Aid Law. We have been witnessing a great deal of state protectionism lately and this needs to be communicated. I think we have a case with Croatia Airlines in the neighbourhood, in Germany we have a case of Thomas Cook that I think was called Condor ... I think we just have to acknowledge the importance of certain companies that carry out public interest in the economic sense and contribute to the budget. When it comes to Montenegro Airlines, with all the big problems, they directly have revenue of around 70 million annually. Just over four hundred people work there, we have 220 licensed persons. Indirectly, the revenue should be around 250 million, the Minister said, answering questions from journalists at a press conference at which the Draft Law on the Budget of Montenegro for 2020 was presented.

The Minister of Finance emphasised that Montenegro is an airline destination, that we have over two and a half million passengers, and that Montenegro Airlines carries 30 percent of them.

These are all elements that show that Montenegro Airlines has a chance to be a viable company, not as it used to be. This indicates that we must make an effort to consolidate it. … We will do our best to create the preconditions for consolidating Montenegro Airlines, Minister of Finance Darko Radunović concluded.
