Podgorica, Montenegro (20 November 2019) -- Answering a question by Goran Danilović, MP, at the Prime Minister's Questions session, Prime Minister Duško Marković announced that the expected deadline for completion of construction and all other infrastructure works on the motorway's priority section Smokovac - Uvač - Mateševo is 30 September 2020, but that due to the complexity of the whole project, the date of the opening of the priority section cannot be confirmed.
PM Marković also stated that intensive activities aimed at the construction of the remaining sections of the motorway are underway, noting:
"We have already been developing the conceptual design and the environmental impact study for the second section, five million euros are provided from the European Commission's grant. We have also been developing a study for the third section, which includes the Smokovac loop towards the coast."
When it comes to linking the motorway with Serbia, he reiterated that the project is fully harmonised and that works on the entire route are in different stages of realisation.
Commenting on the objections to the choice of subcontractors, the Prime Minister stressed that the contractor was selected according to a special model, verified in the Parliament, and that the contractor is not selected by the government but in a strict procedure, and rejected the claims about the danger of economic dependence, saying that diverse interests are behind such allegations.
“I am proud of the Montenegrin subcontractors. They are the subcontractors of this project today, and tomorrow they will hopefully be the contractors of major projects not only in Montenegro but beyond, because they have built the capacity and I believe they will be contractors in Serbia and Italy as well, when the time comes," Prime Minister Marković emphasised.
