SEEIIST project is presented at World Science Forum
Minister of Science Sanja Damjanović held earlier today a presentation at the panel "Scientific Research Infrastructures for the Promotion and Development of Ethical and Responsible Cooperation" within the framework of the World Science Forum (WSF), which was held in Budapest.
As Montenegro is the initiator of such an infrastructure whose aim is to establish the South – East Europe International Institute for Sustainable Technologies (SEEIIST), Minister Damjanović informed all participants, during this thematic session, about the activities on this project and pointed to the benefits that the countries involved in the project will have from its implementation.
She emphasised that for the first time, our region is using the instrument of scientific diplomacy to restore the former tradition of the technological development that the region of South Eastern Europe had. This bring benefits not only to the scientific but also to the political community, which is showed by already successful examples of CERN and the Synchrotron – light for Experimental Science and Applications in the middle East (SESAME) Institute in Jordan. Minister Damjanović also pointed to the fact that the SEEIIIST is in accordance with all sustainable development aims, of which health is one of the most significant aims and it will be one of the most beautiful examples of green infrastructure.
In addition to Minister Damjanović, participants of this panel were Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan of Jordan, President of the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) of Jordan, former Director –General of CERN Prof Herwig Schopper, Chair of the LAAMP Executive Committee Sekazi Mtingwa and Director of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) Atish Dabholkar.
This year, the World Science Forum celebrated twenty years of scientific diplomacy in a memory to the UNESCO World Conference on Science, held in Budapest in 1999 and highlighted the prominent role that the WSF has played bringing together world leaders for science from then until now. The main theme of this year’s forum was a reflection on the theme of the original conference from 1999 which was entitled "Ethics and Responsibility of Science".
