PM Marković meets with Trade Unions: Social partners have established high – quality dialogue for benefit of employees

Podgorica, Montenegro (27 November 2019) -- The Government and social partners have established high – quality social dialogue, which has been constantly boosted, with respect to the needs of employees and employers and thus providing better status of employees and a more competitive business environment, it was noted at the meeting of Prime Minister Duško Marković with a delegation of the Union of Free Trade Unions, headed by Secretary - General Srđa Keković and the Union of Trade Unions of Montenegro, headed by Secretary General Duško Zarubica.
 
"With you we have a serious and responsible partner with who we have worked on this demanding systemic law for a long time, which provide our joint commitments to be of a better quality," Prime Minister Marković stated at the meeting yesterday afternoon, which discussed the new Law on Labour during hours of dialogue. 

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Financial System Milutin Simović and Minister of Labour and Social Welfare Kemal Purišić also attended the meeting. 

Prime Minister Marković highlighted that the Government, in the three year period of financial consolidation, has provided high economic growth, an increase in the number of employees for about 30 000, a reduction in unemployment, regularity of payments of all benefits , an increase in the minimum earnings after a long period and the regular adjustment of pensions. 

The Prime Minister also added that conditions for an increase of the earning in education and health were created. In this regard, he highlighted the principle of creating sustainable solutions that would be long- term applicable and that would provide the financial stability of the system. The Prime Minister also noted that together we resisted the withdrawal, at first sight politically appealing but the long – term unsustainable solutions. 

The representatives of the Union of Free Trade Unions emphasised that they are constructive partners, wanting to contribute to the progress, but also committed to the achieving greater employees’ rights and further humanisation of labour. In this regard, they have gained full understanding of the Prime Minister, expressing the justification of their expectations and pointing out that a quality economic and social environment implies a responsible employer, a respected and rewarded good worker, which is the best guarantee of the competitiveness of the business environment. 

The meeting agreed on the approach to the new Labour Law, which will soon be adopted at the Cabinet session and sent to the Assembly of Montenegro for consideration. The partners agreed to continue the dialogue on the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance through the Social Council.
