Zeta River declares as Nature Park
Podgorica, Montenegro (5 December 2019) -- The Decision to declare the "Zeta River" Nature Park will contribute to further preservation of the Zeta river trough the effective implementation of the adequate measures for the protection and preservation of biological resources and the boost of biological diversity, while constantly raising the ecological awareness of citizens," General Director at the Directorate for Environment Ivana Vojinović stated at the press, after today’s session of the Cabinet, which approved this decision.
As she emphasised, this decision implies the formation of a governing body, which beside the other things, will suggest and implement the Management Plan and provide the implementation of the protection measures. In this manner, as the General Director stated, it will be very successful to preserve this area, create a new value from it and ensure the sustainable development of the protected area of the Zeta river valley.
Financial funds for the management of the Nature Park jointly will provide by the state budget, budgets of the local authorities units and other sources in the line with the law.
"The Danilovgrad Municipality, Capital of Podgorica and the Government of Montenegro approached with great seriousness to the issue of preservation of this extremely valuable area. In relation to this, the firm and high - quality cooperation to this issue will be continued with the constant involvement of the local population and all other stakeholders, in addition to protect the indigenous habitats plant and animal species, to enable long – term sustainable development of the local community, which in fact preserved this area for the benefit of future generations and visitors," General Director Vojinović pointed out, adding that it is necessary to continue with the constant state and local inspection, as well as sanctioning all pollutants of the Zeta River to address the problem of this valuable natural resource pollution.
She recalled that the Danilovgrad Municipality and the Capital of Podgorica, with the Government support, i.e. the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism in February this year initiated the procedure of declaring the Zeta River and its valley a protected natural heritage, in order to preserve natural resources that characterise this area.
As she stated, the Zeta river valley, in terms of it climate, land and geographical feature represents an area with a highly potential for the development of agriculture. "It is for this reason that it is significant to establish the Zeta river valley protection, so that all legal entities engaged in agricultural activities in their work are specifically obliged to use the best available techniques and technologies which are based on the Code of Good Agricultural Practice and thus meet all requirements, in order to preserve the environment," the General Director stated.
President of the Danilovgrad Municipality, Zorica Kovačević noted that the decision was a clear message to the citizens of Danilovgrad, Podgorica and the Government that we want to live in a healthy environment. The decision to set up the governing body would be apporoved at the next Parliament session, which is scheduled for 25 December.
