Competitiveness Council strongly supports Initiative of economy on forming “digital coalition" of Government, business and scientific - academic community

Podgorica, Montenegro (9 December 2019) -- At its 9th session, the Competitiveness Council, chaired by Prime Minister Duško Marković, considered several documents in the area of digitalisation and strongly supported the Initiative of economic associations on the formation of coordination and advisory body for digital transformation.

The coordination and advisory body for the area of digital transformation, on which formation has been given an absolute agreement earlier today, should include representatives of the Government, economy, scientific research and academic community, with the task of contributing to the creation of normative assumptions and modern informatics infrastructure, raising the level of information literacy and security, supporting start – up eco systems and necessary reforms in the economy, education, health and other.

The meeting noted that successful digital transformation represents a great opportunity for the economy, as it turned out by the example of several small countries.

The President of the Council, Prime Minister Duško Marković stated that further development of the Montenegrin economy and society implies a digitalisation as development and transformation policy, and that digital transformation is one of the most important Government policies in the forthcoming period.

The Council met with the Information on implementation of conclusions from previous sessions of the Competitiveness Council, which showed that most of the conclusions were implemented or are underway.

The Competitiveness Council adopted the 2020 Plan of Action, which defines four themes, one for each quarter of the following year: Increase in the activity rate in the labour market, Business environment, Grey economy and Innovations.

The Competitiveness Council also considered a number of documents within its competence.
