Minister Nurković: Investing in Montenegro Airlines is not about saving company but investing in Montenegro's development

The Draft Law on investment and consolidation of Montenegro Airlines is not a rescue of Montenegro Airlines, but an investment in the development of Montenegro, Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs Osman Nurković said at today's press conference organised after the Cabinet passed the law on Friday.
Aware of the importance of the company, the Government of Montenegro did not allow the company to go bankrupt and be liquidated. We have taken this issue seriously and I am sure we have made a good decision. All the calculations show that liquidation would have major consequences and that the benefits of investing would be far greater. We have not made this decision either quickly or easily, but based on the analysis of the work of the company over the last three years, I am sure we made a good decision that we will submit to the Parliament for verification. If the MPs have a better solution, it is up to them to take responsibility, Minister Nurković said.
Presenting some of the arguments and facts in support of this decision, the Minister said that the indirect contribution of the national airline to the Montenegrin tourism and economy is more than 150 million a year according to the conducted market research. Around 400 jobs, of which two-thirds are flight and technical staff in whose education the State has invested heavily, are saved.
The Minister said that despite criticism, he was pleased that the company was saved, pointing to a lie made by experts who claimed that the State would pay the company's EUR 32 million debt to the Airports and that the money would remain to the concessionaire.
The Minister mentioned that the media gave space to incompetent persons, alleged experts, to comment on the Government's decisions. A drastic example is a comment by an expert that the funds paid by the State to Airports for the debt will go to a future concessionaire, and that he will use the state money to pay the State. This is notorious fabrication, ignorance or sick falsehood, the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs noted.
The Minister said that Montenegrin tourism cannot be developed with the existing infrastructure regardless of the fact that we are investing more in road and rail infrastructure.
Minister Nurković estimated that the solution for the national airline had to be systematic in order to allow it to develop and that the positive effects were far greater than those achieved so far.
