Countries negotiating with the European Union should continue to achieve concrete results in the process, in order to show the Member States that they are ready for the next integration phase, it was noted at the Aspen Conference in Berlin.
The Aspen Conference brought together representatives of the six Western Balkan countries, as well as the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Chief Negotiator Aleksandar Drljević took part in the conference.
The participants discussed topics related to the EU enlargement agenda for the Western Balkans, activities of the new European Commission, as well as migration from the Western Balkan countries.
Drljević informed the participants about activities in the integration process.
"Following the announcement of the opening of the last negotiating chapter, Montenegro will intensify its activities to meet the benchmarks in the negotiation process, with the expectation that the international partners will evaluate the results achieved," the Chief Negotiator added.
Conference participants emphasised Germany's willingness to continue to support the integration process, noting that Montenegro is far ahead in meeting its commitments, but that it is important to ensure greater commitment to activities within the European agenda in the next period. The role of parliaments and their contribution in the negotiations was emphasised, as it was assessed that the engagement of the whole society was important for the progress towards membership.
