Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović participated in the US-Adriatic Charter (A5) Foreign Ministers Meeting today in Tirana. In his address, Minister Darmanović emphasised that Montenegro, as a NATO member and a leader in the European integration process, is strongly committed to common goals and that it continues to be an active promoter of the A5 open door policy.

Regional cooperation is one of the most effective ways to achieve integration into European and Euro-Atlantic structures, the Minister said.

He welcomed the results of the Albanian Presidency of the Charter and expressed confidence that during the 2020 presidency, Bosnia and Herzegovina would also continue to step up efforts to profile the A5 as a successful platform for regional security cooperation and the promotion of Euro-Atlantic values. Minister Darmanović said that imminent membership of North Macedonia in the Alliance would contribute to strengthening the cooperation and security of the region. In this context, the Minister also stressed the importance of adopting the BiH Reform Programme.

Minister Darmanović underlined the importance of the EU and NATO support and praised the US commitment to the region, especially in the context of global challenges facing our region, including illegal migration, terrorism, cyber and hybrid threats.

During the meeting, a Joint Statement was adopted reaffirming the commitment to regional cooperation and the promotion of open door policy with a view to integrating the region into the EU and NATO as soon as possible.

The meeting was attended by ministers and representatives of the A5 Member States - Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and the USA, as well as observer countries - Kosovo, Slovenia and Serbia.
