Podgorica, Montenegro (16 December 2019) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Milutin Simović stated that a decisive reform process, which delivers evident results, has been started in the forestry sector and that activities in this direction should be continued in order to manage Montenegro's forest wealth in the best possible manner.

Opening the Third Montenegrin Forest Forum, which is being held in Podgorica, Deputy Prime Minister Simović pointed out that the new organizational model of forest management would provide the state forests, as a public wealth, to be managed in a more environmentally sustainable, socially responsible and economically efficient way.

The Bulgarian Ambassador expressed her satisfaction with the opportunity to participate the meeting discussing the further path of Montenegrin forestry development, especially due to the fact that she is herself a forestry engineer and that she, as Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Food and Forestry, initiated a profound reform of Bulgarian forestry sector.

From the Bulgarian experience, the Ambassador suggested Montenegro to undertake a professional analysis of the economic, environmental and social functions of forests and to prepare and involve all entities of Montenegrin society to the reform.

She also stressed the significance of Montenegro's involvement in global activities, in tackling challenges such as climate change. In this regard, she praised Montenegro for launching an active afforestation campaign.

"Forest care is an investment in the future of the nation and the country. Montenegro is a large country at the small territory. Take care of her, and you, as foresters, have a great obligation in this area," the Bulgarian Ambassador stated.
