Prime Minister Duško Marković will take part on 19 December, at the invitation of his Italian counterpart Giuseppe Conte, in the work of the Summit of the Central European Initiative (CEI) in Rome.
At the Summit, in which 16 prime ministers were invited to take part, Montenegro will take over from Italy chairmanship of the Central European Initiative - the oldest and largest regional mechanism in Central and Eastern Europe, which brings together 17 countries. Eight regional and international organisations have been invited to the Summit as special guests, namely the European Commission, Adriatic-Ionian Initiative, Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) and the Council of Europe.
By taking over the one-year chairmanship of the Initiative on 1 January 2020, Montenegro will reaffirm its support for the CEI's efforts to build a sustainable and prosperous region, while promoting a credible European perspective of countries aspiring for EU membership.
High-level participation will be an additional contribution to the affirmation of Montenegro on the regional and European scene, and above all it will have a positive impact on deepening relations with this multilateral regional organisation, especially in view of the increasing interest of institutions and economic entities in Montenegro for projects funded by the CEI.
The Public Relations Service of the Government of Montenegro will provide the media with photographs and video footages of the event.
