Podgorica, Montenegro (30 December 2019) -- "This year, the economy has been operating in a healthy business environment, with a steady decline in unemployment, low inflation, investment growth and consumption financing from real sources, which are indicators that, together with the economic growth, deserve to be highlighted and praised," the President of the Camber of Economy of Montenegro (PKCG) Vlastimir Golubović noted earlier today, during the regular annual meeting of Prime Minister Duško Marković with entrepreneurs in the Chamber of Economy.
Summing up the economic results of the year behind us, he emphasized: "The achieved economic stability and economic growth are the basis for launching a new investment cycle, primarily through planned projects in transport, energy, tourism and agriculture. New investments come on the basis of well-founded expectations that favourable trends in our economy will continue, including the continued compliance of the regulatory framework with the European acquis."
President of the Chamber of Economy Golubović recalled that Montenegro is making major steps forward in the development of transport infrastructure, which, he stated, will contribute to positioning our country as a transit hub of the region, with better use of port capacities and the Montenegrin rail. He particularly emphasized the significance of the motorway construction, which in a relatively short period can be expected to have positive multiplier effects, such as raising the level of economic activity in the north of Montenegro and more balanced regional development. In this regard, he noted the significant results achieved in air transport, while Montenegrin airports and the national air carrier recorded a record number of passengers in 2019, which is one of the indicators of a very successful tourist season.
The completion of the electricity cable between Montenegro and Italy has shown that our economy can equally participate in the implementation of projects, strategically significant for Europe. In addition to the economic benefits we will derive from energy transit and transmission leases, the submarine cable, along with planned investments in new hydro, wind and solar power plants, opens the possibility for our energy sector to expand and for Montenegro to transform into a significant electricity exporter," he stated, adding that these strategic projects will contribute to reducing the trade of goods deficit.
Speaking about the results of the tourism industry, the President of the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro pointed out the impressive results of this sector, which are also continued this year, while the construction of high-category hotel facilities and other tourist facilities strengthened Montenegrin status as a prestigious tourist destination. According to him, our country, especially Kotor, are recognized as one of the leading cruise destinations in the eastern Mediterranean, while additional quality is offered by newly built marinas, which contribute to the development of yachting tourism.
Noting that agriculture and the food industry deserve to be special mentioned, Golubovic stated: "Our country has significantly increased its agrarian budget and introduced a number of incentive measures, which, creates a favourable environment for investment in this area, with the increasingly successful use of available international funds. The success of agriculture and the food industry in 2018 confirms the 6, 7 % growth rate, and the trend continues this year."
Among other matters, the President of the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro pointed out that, as part of the institutional partnership, representatives of the economy were enabled to actively contribute to creating a more favourable business environment, by participating in governmental bodies and working groups for drafting important laws.
