"2.6 million tourists visited Montenegro in 2019, we recorded 14.5 million overnight stays, and our foreign and domestic guests' revenue will amount to EUR 1.1 billion, which gives us the right to say that this is the best tourist year in the history of Montenegro," Prime Minister Duško Marković said today at the regular annual meeting of business poeple organised by the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro.
As he pointed out, in 2019, 49 new hotels were opened with over 3,700 beds, while 103 new hotels were opened in Montenegro over the last three years.
Pointing out that Montenegro's airports had served about 2.6 million passengers by the end of this year, he said that it was 220,000 more passengers compared to last year.
"The success of Montenegro as a prestigious tourist and investment destination is not only due to the Government of Montenegro and competent departments' work, but also to the economic sector," PM Marković said.
President of the Chamber of Economy of Montenegro Vlastimir Golubović said that impressive results in the tourism sector continued this year, and that high-quality hotel facilities and other tourist facilities strengthened Montenegro's status as a prestigious tourist destination. "I expect that the investment cycle will begin in the tourist capacities of the northern region of our country, first of all in the development of infrastructure in ski centers, which will enable us to position ourselves among the well-known destinations of winter tourism," Golubović said.
State Secretary for Urban Planning at the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism Dragana Cenić said that a draft amendment to the Law on Spatial Planning and Construction of Facilities has already been drafted, and that the topics suggested and pointed out by the Construction Committee of the Chamber of Economy were addressed within these requirements.
"We agree with the proposal to extend the deadline for legalisation, and since there is already an orthophoto of all the constructed buildings, there is no fear of possible misuse of that additional deadline in terms of enabling new illegal construction," said Čenić.
She pointed out that it can be expected that we have a Spatial Plan within a year and a General Regulation Plan in a year and a half.
