Podgorica, Montenegro (31 January 2020) -- The United Kingdom does not leave Europe or the Western Balkans, even though it is leaving the European Union today, and Montenegro wants to strengthen its strategic partnership and make dynamic bilateral relations with the UK, it was noted at the meeting of Prime Minister Duško Marković and British Ambassador Alison Kemp.

"Relations between Montenegro and the United Kingdom have been good and substantial in all areas, significant to Montenegro. We have particularly strengthened an alliance through NATO membership. We want new and more meaningful relations now, especially an improvement through increasingly dynamic economic cooperation. We believe that we will have more new British investors in the upcoming period," the Prime Minister stated.

The Prime Minister added that Montenegro welcomes and respects the EU-UK agreement, in relation to all international agreements that our country has with the Union, including bilateral and multilateral agreements, in which the UK will be treated as a member of the European Union, until 31 December 2020.

The United Kingdom will continue to support Montenegro in the areas of defence, security, cyber security, the fight against serious and organised crime, education, digital agenda and innovation, Ambassador Kemp pointed out. In the upcoming period, the focus will be on the economic reform programs and the importance of signing a partnership and trade agreement, the Ambassador highlighted.

"The United Kingdom has a friend in Montenegro. This is a new beginning now, with a certain perspective. We want a strategic partnership and we look forward to it," Prime Minister Marković noted.
