Podgorica, Montenegro (3 February 2020) -- Montenegro and Germany can further strengthen their excellent political bilateral relations with more dynamic economic co-operation, particularly in the energy and tourism, it was noted at the meeting of Prime Minister Duško Marković and German Bundestag MP Joachim Pfeiffer, who is paying an official visit to our country.
The Government's focus in the last three years was on strengthening the economy, an extremely high economic growth was achieved and positive trends were noted in the areas of tourism, energy and agriculture, Prime Minister Marković pointed out.
"We want to continue at this pace, for years to come. New investments from Germany, which are important to us not only because of money, but also because of the knowledge that comes with them, would contribute to this," Prime Minister Marković stated.
According to the Prime Minister, Montenegro has turned towards renewable energy sources and currently in that area, hundreds of millions of euros worth projects are underway. The two officials emphasized the special importance of the submarine cable with Italy, regarding the cooperation in the energy.
The meeting, which was also attended by the candidate for Honorary Consul of Montenegro in the province of Baden-Württemberg Volker Zech, also discussed numerous opportunities for investment, especially in tourism.
German MP Fifer particularly welcomed membership of our country to NATO and encouraged Montenegro to continue on its path to the European integration. Both sides agreed that this year, during which the Union is presided over by Croatia and then by Germany, we could take a new step forward in the EU accession process.
Noting that after the bilateral meeting of the Prime Minister and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in 2017, relations between Montenegro and Germany got new impetus, Prime Minister Marković also assessed last year's visit of Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Peter Altmaier as significant, on which occasion the Administrative Partnership Agreement between authorities for protecting concurrency was signed.
