Press release: Prime Minister Djukanovic meets Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic

Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic today met with Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic.
Prime Minister Djukanovic acquainted his Serbian counterpart with Montenegros economic and democratic development and the main activities on its dynamic path towards European integration. On this occasion, the Montenegrin Prime Minister reiterated Montenegros interest in building excellent relations with Serbia, as well as with other countries in the region with which Montenegro shared common values on the EU path. In that context, he added that it was advisable to adopt a number of bilateral agreements forming the necessary legal and political infrastructure for diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Particular focus was placed on the opening of talks on dual citizenship. Prime Minister Djukanovic emphasized that, regardless of understandably different starting positions given the factual differences between the two countries, maximum effort should be made to produce a solution in the form of a mutually acceptable compromise. The two prime ministers agreed that the Western Balkans stability and integration into the EU were in the best interest of both the region and Europe.
Speaking on the topic of Kosovo, Prime Minister Cvetkovic expressed Serbias expectations with respect to Montenegro and confidence that, after the forthcoming UN General Assembly session, the issue would be removed from political and placed into a legal context. Having expressed full understanding of the Serbian government policy, Prime Minister Djukanovic reiterated the well-known position on this issue, underlining that Montenegro would continue to have a very responsible attitude, pursuing strategic state interests which positively ensured its upcoming European and Euro-Atlantic future.
