Baković: New ID card can be used in e - commerce

Podgorica, Montenegro (20 February 2020) -- At today’s session, the Montenegrin Cabinet passed a Regulation on determining the identification number of individual. 

At the press conference following the Cabinet session, Director - General for Civil Status and Personal Documents at the Ministry of the Interior Milanka Baković highlighted that adoption of this Regulation completes the process significant for issuance of an identity card, in line with amendments to the Law on Identity Card. Introducing this Law, Montenegro implements the European and international standards from this area. 

Bearing in mind that all developed democratic countries use some of the variants of identification number, as Director General Baković stated, introducing it will reduce administrative burdens for citizens, regarding that it will enable electronic identification for the use of electronic services, and thereby a safer practices in the areas of business electronic, e-commerce, payment systems, commerce and the like.

This will at the same time protect the unique identification number of the person, regarding the identification number, unlike the unique identification number, does not contain the personal data of the certificate holder for the qualified electronic signature i.e. itself does not reveal any information about him, according to Director – General Baković.
