DPM Simović: EU support is also important for area of water resource management

Podgorica, Montenegro (21 February 2020) -- In cooperation with international partners, the Government implements projects worth over EUR 30 million, in order to improve the management of water resources, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Milutin Simović stated on the occasion of presenting the results of one of the projects - IPA project "Strengthening the Capacities for Implementation of the Water Framework Directive in Montenegro".

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in cooperation with the European Commission, which provided a grant of EUR 1.9 million. The aim of the project is to improve the quality of water resources in Montenegro and to implement EU water directives.

In order to meet the third significant goal – Providing water to all, the Government allocated over EUR 5 million over the past four years, aimed at improving the water supply of rural areas, thus solving the issue of orderly water supply for over 3,000 households, according to DPM Simović. 

An integral part of the EU's support to Montenegro on its path to the adoption and implementation of the necessary standards in all areas, all for the better life of its inhabitants, is a support through this project, Head of the Cooperation Section at the EU Delegation to Montenegro Hermann Spitz pointed out. 

Water management and water protection are part of the benchmark for closing Chapter 27 on environment and climate change that must be met, in order to improve the state of resources, which will directly affect the health and citizens quality of life, Spitz also noted.
