The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced today a new IPARD public call to support primary agricultural production, through which producers receive additional EUR 12.3 million in grants from EU funds and the national budget.

The Ministry organised the Open Door Days with the aim of promoting public call procedure through the IPARD programme. The first open day was intended for media representatives, as important partners in informing potential beneficiaries of support. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Milutin Simović and Head of the Cooperation Section at the EU Delegation to Montenegro Hermann Spitz attended the promotion of this concept and the new public call.

Director General of the Directorate for Payments Danka Perović explained that through the new IPARD public call for primary production, farmers will be able to compete with projects from EUR 10,000 euros to EUR 500,000. For investments, they can receive a grant of 60 to 70%, which means that a grant of up to EUR 350,000 per project is possible.

DPM Milutin Simović stressed that the new IPARD call is a new opportunity to use significant grants of the EU and the Government of Montenegro.

IPARD is becoming a symbol of the EU support to Montenegro, it is becoming a symbol of opportunities for the development of our agriculture, but it is also a symbol of communication and cooperation between several institutions, Simović said.

Simović said that Montenegro received about 500 requests through three public calls, making it the most successful in the region and beyond.

Head of the Cooperation Section at the EU Delegation to Montenegro Hermann Spitz assessed that the IPARD programme has become a trademark in Montenegro. He emphasised that supported investments should increase the ability of agriculture and food sector to cope with competitive market pressures. IPARD also helps Montenegro to gradually comply with EU rules and standards.

Spitz said that the Government of Montenegro had made significant efforts to establish the necessary structures and procedures to manage the large amounts of money entrusted to it by the EC.
