At today's session, chaired by Prime Minister Duško Marković, the National Coordination Body for Communicable Diseases assessed that there are no confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infection in Montenegro at the moment and that the health system of our country is undertaking a range of preventative measures to protect the state and citizens which demonstrates that the system is organised, functional, operational and capable of responding to this global challenge.
Minister of Health Kenan Hrapović informed the National Coordination Body that measures undertaken in the past period include, inter alia: regular communication with the World Health Organisation, coordination of all health institutions in the country, 24-hour preparedness of staff of the Institute of Public Health and epidemiological services, strengthening of laboratory capacities and diagnostics and health surveillance of all passengers in international traffic – people coming from from affected areas who are placed under health surveillance for 14 days.
The National Coordination Body, made up of representatives of all relevant national authorities, urged citizens to follow information, instructions and messages, which will be communicated to the public in a timely manner, in accordance with the estimated level of threats and priorities, so that we can all act together to maximally protect Montenegro from infection and pandemic risk.
The fact that the novel coronavirus was identified in the immediate environment of our country calls for the continuation of the activities of all relevant actors and a strong and coordinated institutional response to this challenge.
The session pointed out that all instructions and decisions of the National Coordination Body, in accordance with the commitment that citizens' health is an absolute priority of the Government, are binding on all state bodies and institutions, as well as on every individual including the government and local governments. All public actors are advised to take an increased level of attention in communicating views, as partial political and other interests must be subordinate to the interests of the health of the entire nation.
On Thursday, 27 February 2020, the National Coordination Body for Communicable Diseases will provide more details at a press conference, starting at 10:30 at the Press Centre of the Government of Montenegro, including a detailed plan of activities to continue preparations to confront the challenge of pandemic risk of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
