Podgorica, Montenegro (28 February 2020) -- The fight against organised crime is complex and long -lasting, but the State is determined to win that fight and the Government, state authorities and the intelligence and security sector have the strength and capacity to preserve stability and security, Minister of the Interior Mevludin Nuhodžić told the citizens of our country.
"Dear citizens of Montenegro, I am addressing you because I recognise your concern about a multiple murders, which took place in the past two months, as a result of the clash of organised crime groups. I understand and justify the feeling of disturbance because, unfortunately, human lives have been lost. Organised crime is a global problem that knows no boundaries. This is why the fight against this challenge is complex and long - lasting. There are no quick solutions and overnight results," Minister Nuhodžić noted.
Montenegro has decisively entered the fight, not on its own, but with its partner services, exchanging information and cooperating, the Interior Minister added.
"And we have results. Out of the six murders that have taken place since the beginning of the year, four were shed light (in Podgorica, Herceg Novi, Pljevlja and Plav) and one was prevented. This, of course, is not enough. But it is an indicator of our continued and good work. The state is determined to win the fight against organised crime. The Government, state authorities and the intelligence and security sector have both, the strength and capacity to preserve stability and security," Minister Nuhodžić stated.
Minister Mevludin Nuhodžić noted that even in the previous period there were events and cases distorting this picture, it is a fact that in all researches, the police is at the top of the list of those, in which citizens have the most confidence.
"It confirms that you recognise our determination to deal with criminals strongly and energetically and that you have trust us. I am sure we will win this fight, as well. All together," the Minister said, adding that such a result requires a change in criminal policy, which must be proportionate with a degree of social danger of organised crime, since we have witnessed examples supporting this statement.
