The second session of the Mixed Commission for Economic Cooperation between the Government of Montenegro and the Government of the United Arab Emirates was held on 3 and 4 March 2020 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Montenegrin delegation was led by Minister of Economy Dragica Sekulić, while the UAE delegation was led by Minister of Economy Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori.

The session discussed concrete modalities of bilateral economic cooperation in the following areas: trade, investment, tourism, small and medium-sized enterprises and innovations, energy, education and science, agriculture, culture and transport.

Furthermore, Minister Sekulić said that the session discussed further economic cooperation between Montenegro and the UAE.

"In addition to the UAE being the largest investor in Montenegro in 2017 and 2018, we agreed that there is a lot of room for continuation of cooperation through concrete projects in the fields of energy, tourism, industry, agriculture. It's a very good partnership that has existed for years in political, diplomatic and every other sense," Sekulić said.

She said that they discussed specific projects and that she hoped that the Expo 2020 in Dubai would provide the opportunity to showcase everything Montenegro has to offer. She also mentioned the possibility of introducing a direct flight between Podgorica and the UAE.

"It is important to mention that the UAE is investing heavily in the research and development sector, especially from the point of view of developing new technologies, so I conveyed to them our ideas related to the establishment of the Regional Center for Hydrocarbon Therapy. It is an additional opportunity for us to cooperate in the field of science and research," she concluded.

UAE Economy Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansoori said that he was looking forward to cooperation between Montenegro and the UAE and that Montenegro was very close to the people of the UAE.

"There are strategic links between the two countries. We see great opportunities for cooperation through tourism, trade, agriculture. We talked about new potential cooperation in the field of innovation, SME development. Montenegro will have the opportunity to participate in the EXPO 2020 in Dubai, with opportunity to introduce Montenegrin companies and showcase Montenegro's beauty and opportunities," he said.

He said that recognising the favourable investment environment and energy potential in Montenegro, MASDAR, as one of the largest UAE investors in the field of renewable energy sources, expressed interest in expanding investments in the energy sector of Montenegro.

The Protocol of the second session of the Mixed Commission for Economic Cooperation between the Government of Montenegro and the Government of the United Arab Emirates was signed following the session.
