PM Marković meets with Dan Deputy Editor-in-Chief: Government and media work jointly to strengthen Montenegrin media scene

Podgorica, Montenegro (4 March 2020) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of daily Dan Nikola Marković noted earlier today that the Government and the media should work jointly to upgrade the media legislation and strengthen the Montenegrin media scene, its sustainability and professionalism, stressing that it is a need of the Montenegrin society.

The meeting, held within the Alliance for Europe Initiative, discussed in a constructive spirit several proposals and suggestions on the protection and improvement of the Montenegrin media landscape, including the obligation to register the media with full ownership transparency, as well as further improvement in the field of media advertising.

The Prime Minister and the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of daily Dan agreed that the Commission for monitoring the investigation of attacks on journalists and media assets should be supported by international expert technical assistance and introduced to the Rule of Law Council.

The meeting was also attended by Marketing Director of daily Dan  Smiljka Miličković and Editor of daily Dan  Ljiljana Minić, Minister of Culture Aleksandar Bogdanović and Chief Negotiator with European Union Aleksandar Drljević.
