Prime Minister Duško Marković talked earlier today, within the Alliance for Europe Initiative, to the Presidency of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU), led by President Academician Dragan K. Vukčević.
The secular and civic state, as well as its culture are key elements on which the Government and the CANU should work together to Montenegro's further European progress, it was concluded at the meeting.
The meeting noted that Montenegro is entering Europe with its centuries-old continuity and identity of a multicultural and multiconfessional state. "In this regard, the continuity of our political and social system implies further strengthening of institutions and their upgrading, to which the Government is committed," Prime Minister Duško Marković pointed out.
The Prime Minister said that he recognises the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, as one of the key institutions that should ensure the realisation of our development and European perspectives.
The CANU Presidency stated that it fully supports the Prime Minister's Initiative and that the Academy is willing and ready to contribute, aimed at true integration of our country into the European Union.
Academics informed the Prime Minister about the work on three Montenegrin lexicons at the final stage, namely the Lexicon of Diplomacy, the Lexicon of Fine Arts and the Lexicon of Botany and Biodiversity and that CANU began work on the lexicons of ethnology, Montenegrin dynasties and our economy.
On behalf of the Government the meeting was attended by Minister of Science Sanja Damjanović and Chief Negotiator of Montenegro with the European Union Aleksandar Drljević. On behalf of the CANU, in addition to the president, the meeting was also attended by Vice - Presidents Academicians Đorđe Borozan and Ljubiša Stanković, Secretary General Academician Dragan Radonjić and members (academicians) Milojica Jaćimović, Zoran Rašović, Niko Martinović and Pavle Pejović.
