DPM Simović: Measures proved so far are justified, therefore we introduce new ones

Podgorica, Montenegro (15 March 2020) -- There is no coronavirus in our country, we are doing everything to delay its occurrence, the restrictions and measures introduced have proved to be a justified and responsible approach, and this is the reason for expanding the restrictions, i.e. the introduction of new measures, the Deputy Prime Minister Milutin Simović announced at tonight’s press conference.
"Today, as every day, the competent institutions are individually and collectively preparing their capacities and responding to whatever the current challenges of the Coronavirus are and what might follow. Forecasts that can be heard from the region and from the global level are increasingly worrying every day. The number of patients is increasing and, unfortunately, there is an increasing loss of life. In Montenegro, we are doing everything we can to delay the appearance of the Coronavirus. And when we register it, to prevent its uncontrolled spread and to provide the best possible medical care. This situation is new for all countries, so we carefully monitor and analyse the experiences of others in Montenegro and strive to provide the best solutions. We considered, still believe, the restrictions and measures imposed were a justified and responsible approach. Therefore, from today we will expand the restrictions and introduce additional measures," the Deputy Prime Minister noted, addressing the public following the session of the National Coordination Body for Communicable Diseases.
We will never close the borders for our citizens
Informing the public about the new measures, Deputy Prime Minister Simović reiterated that Montenegro will not close and will never close its borders to its citizens.
"On the contrary, special attention and care will be directed towards the care of our citizens, our students, our children, who, due to the situation in other countries, have to return to their homes," the Deputy Prime Minister pointed out. The Deputy Prime Minister stated that new measures, in addition to those initiated, could only provide us with a favourable position in tackling this dangerous epidemic.
We will suppress the spread of panic and insecurity
"According to the standards of the World Health Organization, we have a chance to come out of this danger with minimal consequences. That is why social distance measures are a necessity, and please understand them! We want to look at another important aspect, related to the current situation. We had the start of spreading panic and insecurity. We assure you that the state will find mechanisms to suppress this, while at the same time providing what is necessary for citizens. Montenegro has built a very broad supply market in the region and beyond. We have a vital and competitive trade sector. We have our ports, which are the best buckles with the world market and the Government's determination to find adequate answers to all challenges. Therefore, some decisions from the environment we are witnessing these days, represent only an unnecessary renunciation of the Montenegrin market and do not need to worry the citizens in any way," the Deputy Prime Minister stressed.
Montenegrin ports are available to countries in the region
Milutin Simović said that the Prime Minister will launch a regional initiative these days, so that the interested states in the region can jointly define the best possible responses, in relation to common needs and problems, including in particular, the regime of traffic of goods in this specific situation.
"The Government voices its readiness to make the capacities of its ports available to the countries in the region, as an expression of the understanding, cooperation, openness and support that is needed by all of us in the region," he said.
The Deputy Prime Minister told the business people that we must obey all orders and respect the recommendations, which were created with the aim of protecting the health and the life of all our citizens.
"We have recorded a number of bright examples, as well as the other examples. We carefully monitor and record these cases, from not allowing employees to be with children under the age of 11 to unreasonably raising prices, and we will take all appropriate measures against them. We urge citizens to report such cases, the competent authorities will investigate them and respond appropriately. On this occasion, we also emphasise the significant role of the media and call for open and partnership cooperation. Any information in these situations carries additional weight and if you have any doubts, we invite you to resolve them together. Consistent compliance with all commonly adopted procedures, rules and recommendations in these situations has no alternative. We urge on citizens to be united, to stand in solidarity, to be responsible, to join forces. Only in this way, we can give the best answers.
The biggest burden falls on health care workers, because they are on the front line of defence. We are confident that they will carry out their tasks effectively and responsibly, and I can say on behalf of the Government, that we will also have a special respect for their hard work and renunciation. Thanks to the valuable administration, our health and public services and all the measures taken so far, Montenegro is adequately resisting this challenge. We ask every individual to respect the recommendations, to help himself and his loved ones, and therefore the whole society - to preserve the health and lives of all our citizens," DPM Simović concluded.
