PM Marković, Governor Žugić: Government and CBCG create set of measures to mitigate consequences of COVID – 19

Podgorica, Montenegro (16 March 2020) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković spoke earlier today with the Governor of the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG) Radoje Žugić, in order that the Government and the CBM in cooperation with the commercial banks, create a package of measures to minimise the negative impact of COVID - 19 on the economy, citizens and public economy.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the health of its citizens is a priority for Montenegro, but that economic parameters and preservation of economic activity, must also be taken into account.

"We are aware of the position in which our citizens and most of the economy find themselves. We strive to respond quickly and adequately to mitigate the negative consequences that the whole world will feel due to the coronavirus pandemic," Prime Minister Marković stated.

Governor Žugić emphasised that the CBCG is already committed to preparing a set of measures, and both sides agreed on the significance of their implementation, during the crisis caused by the coronavirus and the short recovery period. 

The Prime Minister pointed out that so far in this crisis situation, it has been shown that the whole system is functioning and that everyone bears its share of responsibility.
