National Coordinator selected for European Social Survey – Round 10
At its session held on 26 February 2020, choosing from among the three candidates who applied to the Public Call for Applications for the National Coordinator for European Social Survey – Round 10, the Council for Scientific Research Activity selected Prof. Olivera Komar, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Montenegro.
Montenegro will continue its participation in the Europe’s largest social science survey in Round 10, as a guest country.
The European Social Survey (ESS) is one of the largest and methodologically most comprehensive comparative surveys in the world when it comes to the field of social sciences. It is focused on data collection at the level of the participating countries, which are then used as benchmarks for comparison and monitoring of tendencies and changes in society. At the same time, the ESS is one of the pan-European infrastructures, created to respond to the need for academic, rigorous and methodologically well-supported standards that rely on cross-national comparative data. The survey has been conducted in European countries since 2001 and in 2013 the ESS was awarded the status of a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). So far, nine rounds of the survey have been completed, involving more than 30 countries.
In the long run, the European Social Survey is focused on the constant social life issues in a country, such as: democracy and citizen participation; family, work and well-being; attitudes to migration; social inequalities (including in the health domain); attitudes to welfare; attitudes to climate and energy change (“permanent modules”), with each round of survey additionally focused on specific objectives (“rotating modules”). In Round 10, the focus will be placed on digital social contacts in work and family life.
Montenegro participated in this survey for the first time in the previous, Round 9, and the data collected will be published in May 2020, when comparative data for Montenegro and other ESS participating countries will be made available to the research and the general community. https://www.europeansocialsurvey.org/data/
