The state has taken all measures in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic thoughtfully and timely with the primary aim of protecting the health and life of citizens, and representative healthcare trade unions fully support the measures and activities of state authorities – it was noted at the meeting of the presidents of the representative healthcare trade unions and the National Coordination Body for Communicable Diseases.
President of the National Coordination Body Milutin Simović told trade union leaders that the measures were taken with the full participation and respect of the medical profession, that the National Coordination Body is dedicated to gathering all our potentials and that, therefore, the aim of the meeting is to jointly take look at all the challenges that Montenegrin society faces.
"In addition to health, there are also economic, logistical and security challenges. We are witnessing the scale and dynamics of the crisis that many countries are in today. The backbone of the whole system we have built in response to this situation are precisely the healthcare professionals. Most of the burden and the risk is on you and your colleagues, and for this reason I give you special respect. Therefore, the protection of healthcare professionals is a very important link in the fight against the pandemic. That is why, in agreement with the Prime Minister, I suggested that we invite you and meet you to look at the best options for your active engagement with the aim of creating the best response to the challenges ahead of us," National Coordination Body President Milutin Simović said.
President of the Trade Union of Health of Montenegro Dr Vladimir Pavićević, President of the Independent Trade Union of Health of Montenegro Dr Ljiljana Krivokapić and President the Trade Union of Healthcare Employees of Montenegro Nebojša Radonjić made a number of suggestions at the meeting, including those concerning the improvement of protection of healthcare employees.
The National Coordination President thanked the trade unions, saying that any suggestions would be very helpful and carefully considered.
"We all need to be on the same team. Only in this way will we provide the best response. This situation requires quick, immediate responses, it requires quick and efficient decision making. The whole planet is learning now. In order to fight against this pandemic in the best way, effort and unity of the entire society is necessary. We need to engage and unite all our potentials to slow the spread of the virus as much as possible, provide the best care for the sick ones and reduce the number of deaths. In order not to get into a situation that no healthcare system can cope with," President of the National Coordination Body Milutin Simović said at the meeting.
Simović said that all activities are focused on maintaining public health.
"The public health is now the most important and the most vulnerable. Everything else can be recovered later," National Coordination Body President Milutin Simović concluded.
