Podgorica, Montenegro (28 March 2020) -- President of the National Coordination Body for Communicable Diseases Milutin Simović reiterated earlier today that the situation, regarding the coronavirus pandemic in Montenegro is less risky compared to the situation in Serbia and therefore, it is more necessary for ventilators which the Serbian authorities intended to donate to our country, to save lives of Serbian citizens.

Through a video conference, held in UN building in Podgorica, where Montenegro presented diplomatic representatives the National Response Plan to coronavirus pandemic, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Montenegro Vladimir Božović expressed his support for all measures of Montenegro and urged our authorities to "re-consider" last night's decision.

Deputy Prime Minister Milutin Simović, President of the National Coordination Body for Communicable Diseases thanked the Ambassador for his words of support and noted that ventilators were more needed for the citizens of Serbia.

"On the basis of information that the officials of the Republic of Serbia put forward about very difficult circumstances in the fight against coronavirus, which we fully understand, because we are in similar circumstances, we believe that at this moment these ventilators are more needed for the citizens of Serbia," the President of the National Coordination Body stated.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that in our country, politicians do not make decisions about where a medical device will be located, but experts and that this right cannot be guaranteed to any donor.

"In Montenegro, politicians do not dictate where which ventilator will be deployed - in Berane, Bijelo Polje, Podgorica, Bar, or in yours and my Nikšić... In Montenegro, it is the decision of those who are the only ones invited to make that decision - and they are our health care professionals. We cannot guarantee any donor that a particular respirator will be sent, where any donor thinks and wants. This is an additional reason for the ventilators to stay in Serbia and to be directed where Serbia thinks it needs to be, within its borders," DPM Milutin Simović pointed out.

President of the National Coordination Body for Communicable Diseases indicated that there would be no need for a donation, if the ordered ventilators had arrived in our country.

"We appreciate the offer that you called in your note a 'statesman's act', and which would not be necessary if the delivery of those same ventilators, already reserved for Montenegro, was not prevented" President of the National Coordination Body for Communicable Diseases Milutin Simović told at the video conference with diplomats accredited in Montenegro.
