Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic met today with Michael Haltzel, a Senior Fellow at the Center for Transatlantic Relations of Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies. Mr Haltzel is a long-standing foreign policy advisor to US Vice President Joseph Biden.
Prime Minister Djukanovic introduced his guest to the new governments top priorities, underlining in particular Euro-Atlantic and European integration on the one hand, and the mitigation of the impacts of the global economic crisis on Montenegros economy, on the other.
He emphasized that the increased attention the new US administration was focusing on the Western Balkans was extremely important for the region as a whole.
Hatzel spoke highly of Montenegros progress along the path of integration, underlining that the recent meeting between Prime Minister Djukanovic and US Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg provided a new impetus to the already successful cooperation between Montenegro and the United States.
The two parties also exchanged their views on the situation in the Western Balkans, pointing to a number of outstanding issues that could potentially compromise the stability of the region.
Michael Haltzel also met with Foreign Minister Milan Rocen earlier today.
