Three Montenegrin firefighting "Air Tractor" aircrafts extinguished a fire earlier today in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the Konjic area.
The planes were dispatched after the Montenegrin Cabinet, without holding a session and based on the obtain consent of the majority of Cabinet members, passed the decision on responding positively to the request of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which requested international assistance in firefighting.
Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Fahrudin Radončić told this afternoon at Mostar Airport, while escorting our pilots, that this is the first time our country has helped Bosnia and Herzegovina in this way.
"We hold the session of the Council of Ministers and asked for international assistance. The Canadair from Croatia did not come, but we spoke with the leadership of Montenegro yesterday and thanks to their understanding and their resources, which you have seen, we have today received a highly successful assistance in extinguishing fires. Our two BiH Armed Forces helicopters and local firefighters were unable to achieve results. In the situation on the field, what is very important is that the fire was extinguished around Konjic in number of very important locations, houses were saved, which is also the message of Montenegro to BiH, but to the entire region as well – that good neighborly relations are a priority and that Montenegro, especially after joining NATO, which allows certain resources and privileges, acts as a leader in good things throughout the region. Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Council of Ministers and the citizens of BiH are very grateful for such a gesture of Montenegro," Minister Radončić pointed out.
Ambassador of Montenegro to BiH Obrad Mišo Stanišić said on this occasion that our country proved many times to be friendly state towards BiH and to all other countries in the region.
"Regarding the bilateral relations of Montenegro and BiH, I can say that they should be an example to everyone, not only in the region but beyond," Ambassador Stanišić noted.
The basis for assistance is the Agreement between the Government of Montenegro and the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Cooperation in Protection from Natural and Civilisation Disasters, which was signed for an indefinite period of time on 7 September 2007, in Budva.
