PM Marković meets with reputable economists: Government's economic measures are timely, reasonable and responsible

Podgorica, Montenegro (13 April 2020) -- Prime Minister Duško Marković spoke earlier today with reputable Montenegrin economists and professors namely Veselin Vukotić, Božo Mihajlović, Igor Lukšić, Gordana Đurović, Anđelko Lojpur, Nikola Milović and Vasilije Kostić about Government's proposal of measures to support economy, employees and socially vulnerable citizens, with a special emphasis on future activities aimed at recovery and further development of the economy.
The participants of the meeting fully supported the Government's economic measures, assessing them as timely, reasonable and responsible. They also consider, positively, that the measures are time - limited and precisely aimed to those who need support the most at the moment, taking into account the sustainability of public finances.
The several - hour - long meeting discussed the medium and long-term measures for encouraging development and maintaining the living standard of citizens. Both sides agreed that the banking system and the Investment and Development Fund will play significant role in maintaining the liquidity of the real sector in the upcoming period. They mutually agreed on the need for a vision of sustainable development in the future that shall be based on science, innovation and digitalisation, as a key preconditions for further progress.
Prime Minister Marković emphasised that the state is working in a committed manner to tackle the challenges that coronavirus pandemic brought to Montenegro and the whole world, as well as to provide a certain level of economic activity and create preconditions for the adequate recovery of the Montenegrin economy, while preserving the health of the citizens.
"Your approach and suggestions are valuable to us for creating future measures that will encourage development of the Montenegrin economy in a new and innovative way. This situation has shown us that our administration can be effective, that we have quality in institutions and that they are sustainable," Prime Minister Marković pointed out.
Reputable Montenegrin economists voiced their readiness, at the invitation of the Prime Minister, to fully contribute by their suggestions and concrete proposals to the adoption of appropriate measures, aimed at rapid recovery and creating an incentive business environment as a prerequisite for further development.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Policy and Financial System Milutin Simović, Minister of Finance Darko Radunović and Minister of Economy Dragica Sekulić.
