The European Commission accepts the Initiative for exempting the Western Balkans from restrictions on exports of medical devices from the European Union. The Initiative was launched on 9 April by Heads of Diplomacy of Western Balkans countries namely (Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Srđan Darmanović, Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia Nikola Dimitrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Ivica Dačić, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo Glauk Konjufca, Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Bisera Turković and et al. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Albania Gent Cakaj).
The European Commission yesterday began consultations with EU Member States on the draft Regulation, which will allow the adaptation of the export license scheme that was set up on 15 March as an emergency measure and expires on 25 April this year.
The new regulation, which should enter into force on 26 April, contains amendments that inter alia, stipulate the Western Balkans exemption from restrictions on exports of medical supplies coming from the EU, bearing in mind that the countries of the region are deeply in the process of European integration with the Union.
