Podgorica, Montenegro (23 April 2020) – Deputy Prime Minister and President of the National Coordination Body for Communicable Diseases Miliutin Simović stated earlier today in the Assembly that a two-day parliamentary discussion showed that Montenegro has provided timely, decisive and effective response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.
"I will not present any affirmative statistics that speak of our results in the closing statement, as I did not in the opening address. I will not because every diseased, especially lost life is endlessly valuable and a cause for concern and regret, and there is no room for competition. There we just see the need to continue responsible and day-to-day work. I will recall you that the key to our joint result was a timeliness, determination, good organization, responsible crisis management and a high level of citizen awareness," said the Deputy Prime Minister in his closing remarks following discussions on activities and measures of the Government, taken in a response to the pandemic of the novel coronavirus.
Deputy Prime Minister Simović emphasised that strength of our response was in the successful collaboration of the profession and institutions in creating the response.
"We immediately made a cross-section of the overall capacity of our health care system. Thereafter, the profession made assessment of needs in all areas. In parallel, we began the struggle to delay detection of the first case and afterwards to control the spread, in order to gain time and prepare. And we did it. All together. We made good decisions and complied with them. In the brief time: We have reorganised our health care system, built temporary hospitals, provided quarantines, built respiratory centres across Montenegro, procured protective equipment and necessary equipment, and many other things," Deputy Prime Minister Milutin Simović pointed out.
The Deputy Prime Minister and the President of the National Coordination Body assessed that the complex tasks are ahead of us:
This is a time when we need to stand together in fighting for the health and life of every citizen, to safeguard every working place, to preserve every business, from the smallest entrepreneur, to the large companies. This is a time when, even in this crisis, we must have a vision of development and ultimately, all these measures must be in the function of stabilisation first and then of the development. This is a time when we must be determined and brave. A time when all the differences between us should be set aside. This is a time when we must preserve the substance of our economy, to get Montenegro back on the path of accelerated growth and development. So we will be determined and courageous to make it happen. And the measure of all this will be the sustainability of public finances and fairness," DPM Milutin Simović concluded.
