Montenegro joins ESS Round 10

Published on: Apr 20, 2020 9:15 PM Author: Ministry of Science

Montenegro was admitted to Round 10 of the European Social Survey (ESS), the largest European survey in the field of social sciences, as a guest country. The focus of European Social Survey Round 10 will be on digital social contacts in work and family life.

Professor Olivera Komar will attend the upcoming National Coordinators Forum, to take place on 22-23 April 2020, while Professor Ilija Vujačić will be invited to represent Montenegro at the next European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) General Assembly Meeting.

European Social Survey is one of the largest and methodologically superior comparative surveys in the world in the field of social sciences. The research is focused on the collection of data at the level of the participating countries, which are then used to compare and monitor societal trends and changes. At the same time, ESS is one of the pan-European infrastructures, arising from the need for cross-national comparable data underpinned by high academic, rigorous and methodological standards. The surveys have been conducted in European countries since 2001, and in 2013 the ESS was awarded the status of a European Research Infrastructure Consortium. Nine rounds of research have been completed so far, with more than 30 countries involved.

In the long term, European Social Survey is focused on the constant social life issues in a country, such as: democracy and citizen involvement; family, work and well-being; attitudes towards migration; social inequalities (including in health); welfare attitudes; attitudes towards climate and energy change (“permanent modules”), with each round of research focused on specific objectives (“rotating modules”).

The first time Montenegro was involved in ESS was in Round 9, and the data collected will be published in May 2020, when comparable data for Montenegro and other ESS participating countries will be made available to the research community and general public. Further details are available at: https://www.europeansocialsurvey.org/data/
