Government's specific measures to support agriculture and fisheries introduced: Over EUR 17 million for repurchase, loans, interest, advance payments…

Podgorica, Montenegro (24 April 2020) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Milutin Simović introduced earlier today a special package of measures, worth over EUR 17 million, to support agriculture and fisheries.
"The agricultural sector is rightly expected to make a strong contribution to the revival of economic activity, bearing in mind the available resources, as well as the evident significant interest shown by many citizens. Therefore, the commitment of the Government is to support agriculture with this special programme, worth over EUR 17 million, in addition to the full implementation of all measures envisaged by this year's more than generous Agro budget," said the Deputy Prime Minister and introduced the measures:
- Interventions on the market, with the aim to maintain market stability, prices stability and income of producers will provide the repurchase and storage of surplus agricultural products, the assistance in their placement or transfer to public institutions. The funds allocated for this measure amount to EUR 3 million;
- Support for the purchase of domestic products - Budget consumers will give priority to the procurement of domestic products through the obligation of shorter supply chains, which imply shorter and faster transports, all with the aim of quality and safety of food and reduced negative impact on the environment.
Other contracting entities are also recommended to comply their procurement with these principles;
- Support for payment of products to domestic producers, within 15 days. In order to short payment deadlines, the Government will oblige the Investment and Development Fund to provide credit support to retail chains, with the obligation of payment to domestic producers, within no more than 15 days;
- Favourable loans for purchase of current assets to registered agricultural producers, processors, and fishermen.
Loans will be granted up to a maximum of EUR 20.000 with interest at 1.5%, repayment period of up to two years and grace period of up to one year.
The allocated funds for this measure amounts to about EUR 10 million;
- For the beneficiaries of these loans, the Government will pay interest in the grace period, for which about EUR 150.000 will be allocated;
- Payment of contributions to insured persons on the basis of agriculture. This support will cover 529 policyholders who will be paid a total insurance contributions of a duration of six months. The financing needed for this measure amounts to EUR 100.000;
- One-off assistance for 3,200 beneficiaries of old-age of EUR 64 each, for which was allocated EUR 225.000;
- One-time assistance for 184 fishermen with a valid license for which was allocated EUR 200.000 and
- Advance payment of 80 % of premiums in livestock and per hectare of arable land, based on data from the previous year. On this basis, about EUR 3.500.000 will be paid to producers in the first half of May.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development pointed out his belief, that in addition to generous national and the European support from the Agro budget, as well as with these specific support measures of the Government, we will continue the dynamic development of our agriculture.
