Notable results of Montenegrin participation in the COST programme in 2019
Montenegrin research teams are increasingly recognising the benefits of participation in the European Cooperation in Science and Technology Programme (COST).
Namely, our research teams have taken part in 40% of current COST actions in 2019, which is an increase from 31% in 2018, 20% in 2017 and 13% in 2016.
In comparison with previous years, the total number of representatives of Montenegrin institutions actively participating in various networking activities offered by the programme has increased as well. These include meetings, short-term scientific missions and training schools.
COST also provides special support to Early Career Investigators (ECI). Thus, the proportion of Montenegrin participants in early stages of their careers who took part in various COST activities amounted to 54% of the total number of participants.
Furthermore, the number of Montenegrin representatives in COST actions who have taken part in trainings has increased in relation to the previous years and included 15 participants in short-term scientific missions and 16 in training schools. Our participants have also received six conference grants in 2019. These grants enable PhD students and young researchers to take part in international science and technology conferences, even when they are organised outside of the scope of specific COST actions.
As part of its schemes, COST provides financial support for participation in meetings (both travel expenses and organisation of meetings), short-term scientific missions, training schools, conferences, as well as administrative support to institutional grant holders.
The organised meetings, conferences, workshops, training schools, short-term scientific missions and dissemination activities create strong interaction and cooperation, which leads to the establishment of partnerships, joint projects and the publication of scientific papers.
