The special call for COVID-19-related project proposals in the field of health and economy, announced as a part of the Call for Applications for Grants for Scientific Research Projects, was completed this Monday, on 4 May.

Scientific research teams of the University of Montenegro, University of Donja Gorica and “Adriatic” University, as well as teams of the Clinical Centre of Montenegro, Public Health Institute, Specialist Veterinary Laboratory, health centres, the Statistical Office and the Institute for Strategic Studies and Projections, have prepared and submitted a total of 14 project proposals. Most projects are in the field of health and medicine, and the most represented project partners are the Clinical Centre of Montenegro and Public Health Institute.

With a view to ensuring a timely response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Montenegro, the evaluation of the projects submitted under this segment of the Call for Applications and the announcement of a special ranking list of selected projects will be carried out in an accelerated procedure.

In order for the project results to be applicable as soon as possible for decision-making underpinned by scientific research and to mitigate the consequences of the crisis, the deadline for implementation of these projects is 30 October 2020.

Previously, due to new coronavirus pandemic, the Ministry of Science has earmarked funds in the amount of EUR 200,000 from the budget of the grants for scientific research projects specifically to projects in the field of medical and social sciences and interdisciplinary research, primarily with a view to encouraging research work that produces and applies knowledge about COVID-19 and its broader social consequences. In addition, the supported projects will strive to provide applicable knowledge and solutions for better management of similar crises.
