Budva, Montenegro (18 October 2019) -- "Ministry of the Interior does not tolerate and will not tolerate endangering the human rights of citizens and is persistent in insisting that human rights in the police service must be respected. Anyone who has exceeded authority must be held accountable. There must be zero tolerance for violence of any kind. We will not stop until all cases of unlawful conduct have been clarified and sanctioned. The police have no space, no privileges or protection for the abusers in uniform. But also, as a society, we must stand up for the protection of police officers who do their jobs honestly, professionally and responsibly," Interior Minister Mevludin Nuhodžić said at an international conference which took place in Budva earlier today.

He stressed that the Ministry of the Interior is continuously making significant efforts in terms of improving the legislative framework, educating police officers and providing adequate conditions for the detention of persons deprived of their liberty in order to improve their position.

Speaking about the implementation of the Council of Europe Committee's recommendations on the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT), Minister Nuhodžić noted that a specific plan was adopted, as a step forward in implementing the CPT recommendations in everyday police practice.
