Second day of NAC meeting: Allied countries demonstrate unity in preserving safety of their territories and citizens

On the second day of the North Atlantic Council's (NAC) meeting, Minister of Defence Predrag Bosković took part in a session dedicated to the response to crisis, caused by the COVID-19 virus.
During the meeting, the ministers noted that, despite the numerous challenges that all countries are facing due to the consequences caused by COVID-19, NATO continues to responsibly and successfully carry out the planned tasks, in order to preserve the safety of its territory and citizens.
The ministers emphasised that the COVID-19 crisis had shown the unity and resilience of all allies, which through providing aid had shown the mutual solidarity and commitment in preserving common values. They agreed on importance of informing the public, in a timely and reliable manner, about all activities carried out with the aim of avoiding the consequences caused by spreading disinformation.
In addition to high solidarity in the fight to preserve the health of the population, Minister Bošković pointed out that the COVID – 19 crises has demonstrated the significance of united approach of all allies in dealing with the spread of disinformation.
Minister Bošković stated that NATO must join forces to identify and oppose these challenges. The Minister said that it was confirmed that the Alliance remains committed to its fundamental values in the previous period, taking into account that the allies have made significant efforts to reduce the consequences for human lives. The Minister also emphasized the importance of military capacities, as a support in the implementation of national measures to eliminate the consequences of the coronavirus.
He also stated that cooperation with international partners, primarily the EU and the UN, is crucial in mutual efforts, both in preserving global peace and security, as well as in finding the best solutions to combat the pandemic.
Minister Bošković voiced his gratitude to all allies who, bilaterally or through the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC), provided support to our country in the form of medical materials and equipment and thus provided an adequate response to the challenges of the pandemic, which is another confirmation of solidarity and friendly relations within the Alliance.
