Podgorica, Montenegro (20 June 2020) – The National Coordination Body for Communicable Diseases, at its today’s session, chaired by its President Milutin Simović, decided to introduce several temporary epidemiological measures in Rožaje, where the coronavirus imported from Serbia has spread and specified that at least 26 out of 31 cases of active coronavirus infections was directly imported from Serbia or spread through Montenegrin citizens, who have been staying in Serbia illegally for the past ten days.

Due to the spread of coronavirus and an increase in the number of active cases of infection in Rožaje, the following temporary measures are in force for that municipality as of today:

1. The border crossing Vuča - Godovo on the road Rožaje (Montenegro) - Tutin (Serbia) is closed;

2. All public gatherings, celebrations and groupings of more than two persons, except for members of the same household, are prohibited. The measure includes wedding ceremonies, prom celebrations, etc.

3. Wearing of protective masks is mandatory in outdoor public places (in addition to the measure of obligatory wearing of masks indoors, which is applicable on the whole of Montenegro);

4. Religious rites are performed without the presence of citizens;

5. Funerals are conducted with immediate family only.

It was decided that the Armed Forces of Montenegro, the police and the competent inspections will strengthen the control of the state border.

The citizens of Rožaje are recommended not to leave the territory of the Municipality without the great need.

The National Coordination Body considers that the measures adopted today are optimal for the current level of the epidemic and urges citizens of Rožaje to respect all prescribed measures. This is the best way to combat the further spread of the coronavirus, to protect lives and health of the citizens and the guarantee that there will be no need to introduce stricter measures, such as closing the territory of the entire municipality.

It was decided for Director of the Directorate for Inspection Affairs and a member of the National Coordination Body Alija Košuta to organise his work in Rožaje in the following period, with the aim of efficient implementing of all prescribed measures and supervising the work of inspectors in the field.

The National Coordination Body analysed data on the ways of coronavirus import to Montenegro in the past ten days, after the virus was eradicated. Based on epidemiological research, it was identified that at least 26 out of 31 currently active cases (84%) were imported into Montenegro from the Republic of Serbia, after several individuals illegally resided in Serbia. Twelve active cases are the result of import by persons, who were in Belgrade at the football match Crvena Zvezda - Partizan, while 14 active cases are the imported by the citizens of Rožaje, who were illegally staying in Tutin. Three cases are still being epidemiologically investigated and the two are the result of imports by drivers in transit through Montenegro.

Given the fact that several people imported the virus from Serbia and further spread it in Montenegro, it was decided for the Police Directorate and the Administration for Inspection Affairs to strengthen the supervision of persons who are prescribed with self-isolation measures, in order to prevent the possibility of further spread of the virus.

The National Coordination Body warns once again that our country is in a situation where it is fighting a battle for further preservation of public health, while implementing measures aimed at reviving the Montenegrin economy and preserving jobs. Therefore, any non-compliance with the prescribed measures is a direct attack on national interests, especially on vital national interests, such as preserving public health and restoring our economy.

It was decided for all our citizens who happened to be in one of the countries, from which the possibility of entering Montenegro was introduced, with a negative PCR test result, to be allowed to cross the border even without a test with mandatory institutional isolation until testing.
