On the second day of the meeting of the North Atlantic Council, Minister of Defence Predrag Bošković participated in the session related to response to crisis caused by COVID-19 pandemic.
During the meeting, ministers stated that, despite numerous challenges faced by all countries due to consequences caused by Covid-19, NATO continued with responsible and successful implementation of anticipated tasks in order to preserve security of its territories and citizens.
Ministers emphasized that Covid-19 crisis served as a proof of unity and resistance of allies that demonstrated their mutual solidarity and devotion to preserving common values by providing help. They agreed that it was important to provide accurate and reliable information to the public on all implemented activities, in order to avoid consequences of misinformation dissemination.
Minister Bošković pointed out that, in addition to high level of solidarity in the battle for preserving the health of the population, the crisis caused by Coronavirus showed the importance of the united approach of all allies in facing misinformation dissemination.
Bošković stated that NATO had to work on identification and combating these challenges by joint forces. Minister said that in the previous period it had been confirmed that the Alliance had remained devoted to its basic values, taking into account that allies made significant efforts in order to reduce consequences for human lives. Minister emphasized the importance of military capacities as a support in the implementation of national measures for elimination of Covid-19 consequences.
Also, he stated that the cooperation with international partners, primarily the EU and the UN, was of key importance in joint efforts, not only to keep global peace and security, but also to find the best solutions for countering pandemic.
Minister Bošković expressed gratitude to all allies who, either bilaterally or via Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC), provided support to our country by donating medical material and equipment, thus securing the adequate response to pandemic challenges, which represents one more confirmation of solidarity and friendly relations within the Alliance.
